The Awakening

Sonny woke up on the floor. He couldn't remember how he got there, it must have been a rough night. He didn't really care at the moment, all he knew was that he'd die if he didn't have a drink. He got up and went to the bathroom but the door was closed. He tried to look through the keyhole but his big nose kept getting in the way. He couldn't see but he knew! Every time he wanted a drink from his favorite bowl that damned human was sitting on it!

"Woof, woof!"

The Irish rain eased up enough for the traveler to put away his umbrella. The sky brightened and wonder of wonders a rainbow appeared! What's more, the rainbow's end seemed to be close by in a grove of trees. Walking closer, he thought he saw a small figure duck into the woods. A leprechaun! Running as fast as he could, he plunged into the woods, caught a glimpse of the leprechaun counting money and felt a solid whack on the back of his head.

"Fifth tourist today, Sean. Don't they ever wonder where our gold comes from?"

The Chessmen

One more step to unrivaled power! The pawn stood proudly on the seventh rank but felt more than a touch of anxiety. Was he ready to become the most powerful piece in the game? Was he worthy of such exalted status? He looked to the king who gave him a friendly wink. Still he hesitated. Was he ready to become...a queen?!! He reconsidered the implications of the king's wink with increasing alarm. He looked heavenward for help but saw only those damned fingers that kept pushing him forward! They were coming toward him!

"I'm screwed!"
